Workshop on “Financial Stability and Stress Testing” ended at BIBM
A day long workshop on “Financial Stability and Stress Testing” was organized by the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) on June 28, 2010. Thirty-nine senior and mid-level executives from different banks and financial institutions participated in the workshop. The workshop was designed to discuss the issues relating to Financial Stability and Stress Testing in the context of Commercial Banks of Bangladesh. The participants suggested a number of measures regarding- techniques for Stress Testing, framework for regular Stress Testing, Scope for Stress Testing and implementation of Stress Testing guidelines of Bangladesh Bank.
The workshop key-note paper was presented by Dr. Toufic Ahmad Choudhury, Professor & Director (Training), Md. Nehal Ahmed and Md. Alamgir, Assistant Professors of BIBM. All the Faculty Members of BIBM were present at the workshop. Mr. S. K. Sur Chowdhury, Executive Director, Bangladesh Bank was present as the guest resource person in the final presentation. The guest resource and Dr. Bandana Saha, Director General of BIBM distributed certificates among the participants at the concluding session of the workshop. “Banking Laws and Regulations” outreach course organized by BIBM ended at the Chittagong premise of Bangladesh Bank
A 05-day long Outreach Training Course on “Banking Laws and Regulations”, organized by the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) at the Chittagong premise of Bangladesh Bank concluded on 20 May, 2010. A total of 49 participants from different banks (including Bangladesh Bank) and financial institutions participated in this course. BIBM designed this course to acquaint the participants with the laws and regulations related to banking, to improve operational skills in handling different legal matters of banks and to review banks’ and bankers’ safeguards.

BIBM has conducted a training workshop on “Bond Market Operations in Bangladesh” at BIBM premises during May 05-06, 2010 with a view to enhance the capability of the participants regarding the operation of bond market, to drive the strategies for the development of a secondary market and share the importance of bond market operations for banking portfolio development. A total number of 28 participants in the rank of Senior Principal Officer of Equivalent Officer and above participated in the workshop.

Training Course on “Advanced Credit Management” (May 09- 13, 2010)
A training course on “Advanced Credit Management” has organized and successfully completed by BIBM at its own premises during May 09 - 13, 2010 for five consecutive working days. The major objectives of the course were to acquaint the participants with the existing credit management practices, organizational policies and programs regarding innovation and making of credit products, different techniques of loan portfolio management, credit investigation, credit processing, loan recovery, NPL Management and various emerging challenges regarding credit management of banks. A total number of 34 participants from different banks and Non-bank financial institution in the rank of senior principle officer or equivalent officer and above participated in the course.

A Training Workshop on “Structured Finance” by the BIBM at its premises for two working days (April 12 – 13, 2010). The major objective of the Workshop was to familiarize the participants with the concept and types of structured finance products, their utility in loan portfolio management, various operational aspects as well as documentation process for structured finance and exchange views with the participants regarding practical issues and problems of using structured finance products in Bangladesh. “Use of IT for Banking Business Enhancement”-an outreach course conducted by BIBM
A 05-day long outreach training course on “Use of IT for Banking Business Enhancement” organized by the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) at the Sylhet premise of Bangladesh Bank concluded on 08 April, 2010. A total of 30 participants from different banks (including Bangladesh Bank) and financial institutions participated in this course. BIBM designed this course to develop the knowledge base necessary for the bank officers to cope with the applications of IT in banks, to develop knowledge and skill about computer applications in banks and to familiarize the participants with the issues of IT applications in banks for business development.

"Investment and Merchant Banking" Course concluded at BIBM
BIBM has conducted a five day long training course on “Investment and Merchant Banking” in the BIBM premises from March 28 to April 01, 2010 with a view to familiarize the participants with the concepts and functions of investment and merchant banking, security market and its instruments, etc. A total number of 29 participants in the rank of senior officer or equivalent officers and above from different banks and financial institutions participated in the course.

"Agricultural and Rural Banking" course ended at BIBM
A five day long training course on "Agricultural and Rural Banking" conducted by the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) concluded on April 01, 2010. A total of 26 high officials from different banks & financial institutions participated in this course. BIBM designed this course to acquaint the participants with the present status of agricultural and rural banking and to emphasize the importance of institutional credit facilities for the overall development of rural areas and agricultural sector, to develop skills of participants for identifying, appraising and designing the agricultural and rural sector projects with special focus on value chain model, to acquaint the participants with the skill and knowledge on innovative financing techniques for agricultural and rural sector projects in the context of cross country experiences and to discuss various operational procedures including monitoring, supervision and follow-up of the projects and recovery of loans and advances involved in financing agricultural and rural sector projects.

A five working day long training course on "Risk Management and Capital Adequacy" conducted by the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) concluded on March 25, 2010. A total of 34 high officials from different banks & financial institutions participated in this course. BIBM designed this course to increase the understanding of bank officials various risks in the banking business and management by applying advanced techniques, acquaint the participants with the policy guidelines, techniques and strategies involved in effective management of risks in banking, develop skills in computing the capital adequacy requirement in line with Basel-II Accord.

A 04-day long training course on “Bank Marketing, Branding and Relationship Banking” conducted by the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) concluded on February 25, 2010. A total of eighteen senior officers from different banks and financial institutions participated in this course. BIBM designed this course to familiarize the participants with the fundamentals of marketing of bank products, branding and relationship banking, discuss the techniques of conducting research for product development in banks, issues and tools of relationship banking, formulate product pricing techniques and appropriate product design cycle in banking, discuss the bank marketing program and bank marketing administration including customer and bank marketing information system.

A 10-day long training course on “Bank Management for Executives” conducted by the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) concluded on February 18, 2010. Twenty seven Executives from different banks and financial institutions participated in this course. BIBM designed this course to enhance awareness of the participants with latest developments in banking. The specific objectives were: to enhance the knowledge base about overall bank management like fund management, tools and techniques of risk management, human resources management strategies, loan portfolio management, the technology based banking and its prospect in Bangladesh etc. including the recent changes in international banking practices. BIBM organized a ten working day long training course on “Credit Appraisal and Management” in BIBM premises from November 08 to19, 2009 with a view to familiarize the trainees with the credit policy guidelines, techniques of selecting borrowers, techniques of credit risk management, process of loan structuring and pricing, documentation, supervision, monitoring and recovery of loans including NPL. Dr. Bandana Saha Appointed as the DG of BIBM
Dr. Bandana Saha appointed as Director General (DG) of Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM). Earlier she was the Director (Admn. & Acc.) & Director (Research, Development & Consultancy) of BIBM. After having PhD. degree from Moscow State University of Soviet Russia, Dr. Saha joined BIBM as Assistant Professor in 1980. She has been involved in training, academic and research activities of BIBM for around last 30 years. She received a lot of training programs from America, India and her own country. She has a lot of publications in renowned journals of Bangladesh and abroad.
